our guest speakers, scholars, performers, and activists help us to engage in critical conversations and further the university's goal of maintaining an inclusive campus environment.
this year, our incoming class consists of 1,260 students from 37 different states and 17 foreign countries. more than 40% identify as a person of color, 43% identify as male, and 57% identify as female. 39% are the first person in their family to attend college. you can read more about our full student body here.
of uhart’s 360 full-time faculty, 191 identify as male and 169 as female. 43 faculty are asian, 13 are black, and 10 hispanic.
of uhart’s 595 staff members, 259 identify as male, while 336 identify as female. 93 are black, 40 are hispanic, 16 are asian, and 14 identify as two or more races.

as part of uhart's nationally recognized interdisciplinary general education program, all students are required to take one diversity designated course.

the office of student engagement and inclusion was introduced in 2019 to better align uhart resources with the diverse needs of students. cultivating interconnected and inclusive communities that actively promote respect for all individuals and act intentionally with integrity results in more robust programming for students in collaboration with faculty and staff. it leverages decades of student-focused staff experience, with a goal of offering programs and services focused on creating co-curricular learning opportunities that enhance the personal, educational, leadership, cultural and social development for our students.
